  • Machiavelli was a diplomat in Florence who tried to answer the question 'how could a ruler maintain power in the Italian city-states? To answer this question he decided people were greedy and only cared about themselves. He said a ruler shouldn't try to be good but do whatever it takes to keep power and protect the city.

  • Machiavelli was born in the era of Renaissance Philosophy. He was a political philosopher, historian, play write, author, and poet. He wrote comedies and carnival songs.
  • Two of his most famous books were The Prince and Discourses On The First Ten Books Of Titus Livy.
  • In the book The Prince he tells of a hereditary prince, how they should rule and their struggles. It was looked down upon do to the advice he gave to the prince's in the book. Such as rule with an iron fist. Don't always do what people want, but what is best. Do what is best and whatever keeps you in power. The Prince was written in 1513 and published in 1532, five years after his death.
  • Do to some works done by Machiavelli anyone who aims to deceive and manipulate others for personal advantage became known as a Machiavellian. Machiavellianism as the whole term and belief became known as is a popular term used in speeches and journalism, while is psychology, it denotes a personality type.
